One Ball founder and former Young Socceroo Kamal Ibrahim attended the official launch of Football Australia’s Football Unites: Strengthening Multicultural Australia through Football paper at Parliament House in Canberra.
The launch brought together MPs, Senators and representatives from the football community and non-government sector to recognise the contribution migrant and multicultural communities have made to Australian football.
The paper celebrates the game’s multicultural history and highlights how football can strengthen belonging, participation and social cohesion through community programs and partnerships.
A personal connection to football’s impact
For Kamal, the initiative holds particular meaning.
“Football has played a significant role in my own journey, creating opportunities, building connections and giving me a sense of belonging.”
Through One Ball, that experience informs a commitment to creating similar opportunities for the next generation, particularly children and families who face barriers to participating in sport.
Turning recognition into grassroots opportunity
Football Australia’s paper sets out a commitment to building on its multicultural programs through leadership, participation and partnership, including a dedicated Multicultural Pillar within its National Participation Plan.
For Kamal, the next step is turning recognition into greater investment, partnerships and opportunities at the grassroots level.
One Ball congratulates Football Australia, Chair Anter Isaac and everyone involved in bringing this important initiative to life.
“Football is more than a game. It’s a pathway to belonging, opportunity and stronger communities.”
